Our racers have committed to supporting their local community by volunteering for a wide range of activities - from helping put on a stage race, volunteering in registration, set up, clean up and everything in between to make the annual Wildflower Century a success again this year, to riding along with an entire class of elementary school children for a week long field trip, teaching them about cycling safety and fun as well as cleaning local cycling/walking paths, volunteering in other area classrooms teaching kids how to do basic bike repairs and providing/making bikes available to any child who requests one through the Butte County Junior Cycling program. Other racers have committed to support the local homeless shelter, the Torres Shelter, build a bike rack and shelter for citizen's needing this support during these tough economic times. Collectively, we logged over 275 hours of community service here in Chico!
Torres Shelter: Providing shelter and support services since 1998. The Chico Community Shelter Partnership is a thriving, growing, effective and always improving non-profit organization dedicated to assisting a wide variety of people in their efforts to achieve self-sufficiency and a more stable lifestyle. We operate the Torres Community Shelter and for over 13 years, we’ve provided shelter and related social services to help people experiencing homelessness in our community.
Butte County Junior Cycling: The Butte County Junior Cycling program exists to provide youth with the opportunity to enjoy the sport of cycling through a road bike loan program. Junior cyclists are encouraged to safely ride the roads and cycling events in Butte County and beyond. We believe that cycling is a lifelong activity that is beneficial to the mind, body and soul.
